Bare Minerals Review:: Created dry patches on my oily skin
by Katie
(Denver, CO )
I decided to try Bare Minerals after trying a couple drug store brands (I found that I liked the concept of mineral makeup but wanted to see the difference between the drug store brands and the "leading" brand). I liked the feeling and coverage of Bare Minerals but noticed after two or three weeks that I had dry patches, almost like a rash, under my eyes. Since this reaction had not occurred immediately upon use, I re-evaluated my skincare routine, taking away nearly every product I was using and re-introducing it to ensure it was the Bare Minerals. Due to my persistence, I also ended up with dry patches / rash around my earlobes and on my neck. I really am disappointed because I do like the makeup. I still use the mineral veil and really like it; although it is not translucent, as others have mentioned.
I first tried Maybelline and found that it looked like a liquid foundation on my skin - my favorite thing about mineral foundation is that it's light, but I found that the Maybelline product felt like I was wearing a lot of makeup and made my skin look oilier and my pores appear larger. I next tried Loreal, and it seemed like I was breaking out more often than normal (breakouts are common for me, even now in my early 30's, so it's difficult to tell if it's the product or just my skin). I next tried the Bare Minerals, as described above. I have most recently tried KMS Minerals after reading several good reviews. It too, however, seems to make me break out. I guess I still haven't found the right product for me but am encouraged after reading this website - there are several different brands I am now anxious to try! It seems that there is no one product that works for everyone, so I just have to find the one that works for me!
Hi Katie -
Thanks for your great reviews! I would recommend you try either Affordable Mineral Makeup or Mineral Hygienics - both are Bismuth free foundations with only 4 ingredients - also you may want to try a synthetic brush instead of an animal hair one.
