baremineral foundation review

by gayle
(south carolina)

I live in a climate that can get really hot. I can't wear the foundation during those months because it makes my face itch.

Note to Gayle -
It is the Bismuth in bareminerals that makes you itch - see this article for more information and a list of bismuth free mineral foundations:

Thank you for good information
by: Anonymous

I have been using Bare Essentials - since I live in Florida I associated the HEAT here with the burning/itching. I just recently decided it was the sun screen in the product that was irritating my skin so much.. now I'm reading about the Bismuth which is a great help. I was wanting to try the Avon mineral makeup but will need to see if that ingredient is present. This website has been very helpful.

The BO..
by: Julie

It's definitely the bismuth oxychloride that caused the burn on my face. I did a test on several BE products... foundation, radiance and blush. I tried the foundation both with primer and without and with a mineral veil sandwich. Every application burned my face in sunlight or the slightest amount of heat. It didn't start out that way, but it seemed to gradually get worse over the course of a year. (And, yes, my brushes are cleaned regularly.) The radiance and blush do the same thing to my skin. I sunk a small fortune into several kits and singles, and am now really upset that I have a bunch of stuff I can no longer wear. I did find one interesting thing, however. I can wear the eyeshadows with no problem... well, at the end of the day, my eyes itch a little at the corner, but that's it.
I have now tried both Laura Geller and Serious Skin Care and I like them both. Serious Skin Care has no bismuth oxychloride, and it's great. Very few foundation colors, though.

A little research on bismuth oxychloride tells me that it's probably not good to buff little sharp and shiny minerals into your skin, anyway.

Itching/Burning
by: Katrina

I thought I was alone in the buring itching problems with Bare Minerals. I can wear the foundation just not the mineral viel which was my favorite part.

Reaction to Bare Minerals
by: Brandy

I am so glad I read these reviews. Finally someone who has the same reaction to the bare minerals that I do. I too have itching/burning when my face is exposed to sunlight and every time I told someone about it they had never heard of it. And someone even told me it was the titanium dioxide. I love the mineral makeup so now I will have other brands to try without the Bismuth. Thanks for the info!
