Looking for the Best Mineral Makeup?

Have tried BE, but it made my face shiny (not oily), and that seemed to emphasize the crow's feet around my eyes.

Have tried Lauren Hutton and the same problem happens. Haven't tried Sheer Cover yet.

Will be trying Mary Kay in the near future.

Finding the Best Mineral Makeup for you can be challenging!
The shine that you don't like is caused by the ingredient Bismuth. A Bismuth Free foundation will have a matte finish (instead of the "glow"). (See Bismuth in Mineral Makeup)

I would recommend a bismuth free foundation. Also one that is more finely milled will result in less accumulation in fine lines and wrinkles and provide fuller and longer lasting coverage.
The two that do not contain bismuth and are very fine that I would recommend are Seriesse and Mineral Hygenics.

Good Luck in your search!

How to stop oily skin when using mineral makeup
by: Trina

I've always had that same problem with mineral foundation too-good to know it's the bismuth causing the oiliness. The only solution I had found was a loose powder called Mattify Powder. If you put it on underneath the bare minerals, it prevents it from lodging in pores and lines, and also prevents oiliness. I tried the BE veil, but I looked oilier than ever, so that was a big fail! Also, I was reading on another site that BE uses mica in their foundation, which makes oily skin look worse. I've switched back to liquid foundation, because I can't seem to get the BE to stay looking good for more than a few hours. But if you want to stay with minerals, try putting the Mattify Loose Powder on under and over the minerals. It will get rid of oiliness for 4 or 5 hours. I even use it with my liquid makeup and it stops breakouts. The few times I didn't use it, it was acne city on my face! But then I went back to using it daily and the acne cleared up. Its cheap too, costs 8 bucks at the Mattify Cosmetics site. They came out with an Ultra one too, which a friend tried - she said it works even better, so I'll be ordering that soon.

drier skin and pores are filled more
by: Lisa

I have been using Bare Escentuals. I seem to really like the coverage and how long it stays on but it seems to have made my skin drier and peelier. Also, I have had more of my pores filled and have a hard time cleaning them out? what would anyone recommend for this or has anyone had these issues and tried another brand that worked?

Hi Lisa -
I really don't think a different brand of loose minerals would solve your problem.

First I would recommend that you use a good moisturizer and let it soak in for a few minutes before you apply your foundation.

If that doesn't help, you might want to try a Makeup Primer to create a barrier between your skin and foundation - this should help you a great deal.

The other option would be to try a liquid Mineral Makeup - Jane Iredale, Illuminare, GloMinerals and Youngblood Liquid Mineral Foundations are all reviewed on the site.
