Mary Kay Mineral Foundation is Glorified Loose Powder!!!

Where do I start? I am a qualified Austhetician and have spent so much time researching mineral makeups it makes my head swim. I have spoken to countless people in the profession including scientists and dermatologists. I am sorry to say but in my opinion Mary Kay Mineral Foundation is a glorified loose powder!!!

What got me was what it didn't have and did have in it, which left me scratching my head. Any company that has even a small percent of mineral in it can market it as a mineral line, sad to say but true. There is no legislation that can stop companies from marketing it as such. They can have the minutest minerals in it and can get away with calling it mineral. They are clever marketers.

Talc is listed at no 1, so it comprises mostly of talc! Talc is a cheap bulking agent, yes it feel great ladies. But Gives a dry chalky appearance and has possible links to ovarian cancer. We are told not to use it on babies. Is much like asbestos.
Parabens, Mary Kay has 2, are linked to hormonal imbalances, cell aging and breast cancer.

What makes a mineral makeup, MINERAL MAKEUP?

The two top ingredients should be Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide!! Where are they in their list of ingredients!!! They are the basis of a great mineral foundation. They are both awesome UVA & UVB natural filters. Zinc oxide is also a wound healer that is why it is fantastic in treating acne. And both are great after cosmetic surgery. I would not recommend Mary Kay mineral foundation after Post surgery.

Lets talk Dimethicone. This is a highly processed potentially irritating chemical, causes minerals to sit heavily on the skin by 'sticking' to it and is linked to irritation and acne congestion!
Yay! I give them one star because they don't contain Bismuth.

I will leave you to look up the rest of the ingredients for time purposes. I could keep going and going.

Do your research. Don't just take it for granted that it is mineral just because they say it is.

If you are not bothered with the chemicals and lack of the two main ingredients that make up mineral makeup then great for you. If you are then I would recommend you look at others.

Go to a dermatologist
by: Anonymous

My dermatologist advised me not to use mary Kay or Merle Norman. I have been using cetaphil restroderm body wash on my face as instructed. He also said to use the lotion if needed . I also was prescribed antibiotic and duac prescription acne gel. The gel is expenisive but works. My face is so much clearer. I still have hyperpigmentation from scars that will take longer to heal but no longer am suffering from painful acne. Acne is bacterial infection that's is why antibiotics are used. I used proactiv before pregnancy and it worked wonders but after nothing so I went to a doctor. It has helped. I use bare minerals and clinque powder makeup .

What would you recommend?

You say you are an aesthetician (you spelled your proffesion wrong) so which one is the best? I've tried BE and it creates and instant shine/sheen that I do not like. Sheer Essentials was too expensive for what it did and it was blotchy on me. I have very oily acne prone skin. Jane Iredale was a mess although the brush I bought is great! I want to use what is best for my skin and also what has the best coverage and oil control. So far that has been Mary Kay. This experimenting with different brands is expensive.
